Mob Description Tips
If you're not sure how to describe something but you have a visual in mind, find a visual reference to actually look at. It can help a lot. Not sure what it's called or how to phrase it? No idea where to start with? You can browse through these different suggestions and tips to get some ideas or inspiration.
In addition to the suggestions, it is up to you how creative you want to be. You can simply state a description or describe something with a little more creativity. You can also combine different aspects of the description if it makes sense to do and is still grammatically correct.
For example:
T-Rex has green scales covering his body down to the tip of his tail.
Large scales the shade of a deep algae overlap fluidly over T-Rex's well-muscled torso, long tail, and useless tiny arms.
Lensmoor has both an international player-base and a fantasy setting that makes the use of measurements a bit tricky. If you are going to use a certain type of measurement, then be consistent with using that same one. (e.g. The trees are 15 feet tall. vs The trees are 4 and a half meters tall.) You can also get creative by finding a way to describe something without relying on an OOC unit of measurement, especially with the use of similes (using like or as) or metaphors.
Simile: T-Rex's fearless eyes are as big as a sidhe's finest crafted dinner plate. (Compares the size of his mort-hungry eyes with big plates.) Metaphor: T-Rex's maw is filled with teeth of steel daggers. (The teeth are not literally steel daggers, but you can infer how big and strong they are from the comparison.)
Body
How tall or short are they (height)?
How light or heavy (weight)?
How old are they?
What is their build (slim, average, athletic) for their race?
Are they muscled, lean, lanky, buxom, or overweight?
Do they have soft skin, leathery skin, scales, or fur?
Can you even tell what they have beneath all of the clothing?
Clothing
You want to avoid being redundant and describing anything people can see for themselves. If your mob will wear an actual piece of clothing or armor, you should not describe it in the mob description. The description should instead be on the object they're wearing. There are also other ways you can generally describe what is worn such as whether it looks clean, dirty, wrinkled, tidy, disheveled, mismatched, ratty, extra worn, new, etc. You can check out the guide, OBJECT DESCRIPTION TIPS, for help specifically on describing objects.
Parts
Check the part flags on your mob. Some of these parts lend their way easily to give a more in-depth description.
Do they have wings, tail, claws, horns, leaves, roots, branches, a trunk, or additional sets of arms or legs?
For claws or fingernails, are they short, long, bitten, clean, dirty, painted, completed covered by gunk?
Do they have humanoid features or limbs?
Non-humanoid features or limbs?
Do these differ in anyway from similar races or other beings in their race?
Are they working properly, look like they've been broken, deformed, have scars, tattoos, other markings, any abnormalities or anomalies?
Facial features
Can you think of someone with a certain facial feature you're picturing? Sometimes describing a feature can be made much easier if you have a visual reference of a certain facial feature or person with that feature. You can use web search engines such as google images.
Hair
What is the hair color, length, texture (e.g. greasy, damaged, dry, dandruff, coarse, wiry, smooth, fine, healthy)?
Is it thin or thick, straight/wavy/curly?
Is it taken care of? Washed? Combed? Styled?
Missing? If lacking hair, is it shaven and trimmed, falling out due to illness, naturally thinning, etc.? If you can see their scalp, is it the same as the rest of the skin or untanned, pale, dryer, scaly, flaking, freckled, gross?
Eyes
What is their eye color, eye shape?
Do they have eyelashes? Full, thick, long eyelashes? Thin, scattered eyelashes?
Do they squint or are they wide-eyed or somewhere in between?
Do they have wrinkles around the eyes? Crow's feet? Is the skin around their eyes paler or darker than their skin?
Are their eyes sunken into the skull or slightly bulging?
Are the eyes sitting normally apart or closer/farther away than usual?
Nose
Does your mob even have a nose? If they do, is it short, long, in between? Is it thin or wide?
Does it have a protruding bridge or is it flatter to the face?
Does it end rounded, with an upward tip, or downward?
Are the nostrils large, small, flared?
Is there hair poking out of there?
Does it look like it's been broken before? Healed wrong from a childhood injury or feisty bar-fight?
Mouth
Do they have large mouth, small mouth, in-between? Thin lips, thick lips, neither? What color?
Any cosmetic changes? Are they dry and chapped, healthy, moistened by licking them or drooling?
Is their mouth hanging open, closed, shut with tight lips?
Can you see their teeth if or when their mouth opens?
What do their teeth look like?
General Face
Is the skin color on their face the same as the rest of their body?
Do they have any visible facial wrinkles?
Deep lines around the mouth?
Moles? Freckles? How many? Just a few freckles on the nose or an extensive scattering of freckles across the face?
Any scars, even small?
Other skin features like burns, patches of different colors, skin tighter than usual after healing, scaly or with a rougher texture than the rest?
