Mind Flayers
About
Known by a few scholars as Illithid, these unscrupulous creatures are parasites that infect sentient races (primarily humans). Once infected by a larval form, almost like a maggot, it grows inside the brain and replaces it with its own. The result is most often a humanoid body, possessing a head with multiple tentacles extending from its face.
Mind Flayers naturally possess mental abilities that just barely surpass Gilska, as well as magical powers to rival an Archmage, passed down through racial memory. This power further enhances with each brain they consume, age, and training.
They are innately evil and cannibalistic, as sentient brains are the only food that will sustain them. They are also able to eat nearly all of a brain, leaving just enough intact to create a slave that will serve them and then serve as food for its larval children later on.
The Mind Flayers worship false gods known as Elder Brains, which are created when a group of them merge. When a Mind Flayer dies, they are consumed by the Elder Brain and join it in a limited immortality. Although the Elder Brains are not true gods, it may take means beyond mortal strength alone to injure one. It goes without saying that the pantheon of Lensmoor and Antrippan gods despises the assertion that the Elder Brains are gods.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The Mind Flayers have mental powers surpassing most mortals and are typically immune to poisons, diseases, petrification, and necromancy. They have no known weaknesses.
