Wraiths
About
The most powerful of the ghosts, wraiths are not creatures of flesh and blood but rather spirits of shadowy fog, like a burning cloud of blackness in a somewhat humanoid form appearing more as a cloaked figure than anything else. There are two types of wraiths, bound and unbound. Unbound wraiths are wild and uncontrollable; with a hunger for the flesh and blood of the living they seek out and destroy anything that comes across their path. That said, bound wraiths are usually a bit tamer: summoned to the service of a great, and powerful dark-lord.
Most bound wraiths serve Arawn, God of Death; he places across the world as undead watchers, for what purpose is only for Arawn to know. Other bound wraiths serve mortal lords of darkness who conjure them up from beyond the grave to do their bidding. An unbound wraith usually comes from an amateur necromancer attempting to summon one up and failing to control it.
In general wraiths are feared not for their strength, but for their otherworldly powers to drain the life of their enemies simply by striking blows in combat. Also, wraiths cannot truly die; landing blows in combat will strip away some of the shadowy fog that makes up a wraiths body. This fog can regenerate on its own slowly, however if enough of it is torn away the soul of the wraith will escape from its shell back to Arawn’s realms -- only to return again later.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Most wraiths possess the ability to drain life and energy from their enemies, many also place a chilling touch upon their enemies. Most wraiths are venerable to holy magics and anti-undead measures.
Locations
Wraiths can be found in dens of evil all across the world, although on Lensmoor it is a well known fact that the evil liche Mordea has a lesser one as her front door guard.
